Firstly, I would like to welcome you to our blog. This is my first post. I hope you enjoy the small renditions of what is happening up here on Exmoor.
On fathers day the UK Ironman 70.3 triathlon took place at Wimbleball Lake, Exmoor. Dan and I got up at 4.30am and made our way to the Lake; I was representing Active Exmoor and had roped Dan into volunteering for the day. There was a fantastic atmosphere with emotions running high. The event consisted of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1mile run. Approximately 1,500 athletes competed for an opportunity to win one of 100 qualifying slots for the Ford Ironman 70.3 World Championship which takes place in November in Clearwater, Florida.
Sunday’s race took the athletes through 70.3 miles of scenic Wimbleball Lake, woodlands and meadows of the famed UK countryside, in the heart of Exmoor National Park. The competitor’s journeys lead them to a rewarding finish line where enthusiastic spectators applauded their determination and willpower.
We would like to give our congratulations to one of our guests who was taking part in the competition, she came first in her age group and was 9th lady over all, and she also managed to bag one of the qualifying
slots in Clearwater Florida. I hope that the new Jacuzzi bath helped with the recovery!
There was also the Lynton and Lynmouth Music Festival, part of the North Devon Festival throughout June. Over 2500 people descended on Lynton and Lynmouth to enjoy free live music and entertainment all weekend.
Next weekend is Midsummer, there is the Royal Perambulation of Exmoor for those of you who enjoy walking, and we still have vacancies if you would like to take part currently entrants are at 250.
Rachel.
