On Saturday evening, The Rest & Be Thankful Pub cooked a full Hog Roast to begin the Exmoor Explorer Mountain Bike weekend which was welcomed by a couple of hundred mountain bikers who had travelled far and wide to make the annual event, camping in a nearby field.
More riders turned up on Sunday, Dan was one of over 400 riders who entered this year’s marathon, which was the 10th anniversary of the popular 25 or 35 mile routes.
He said the muddy trails made this year’s explorer pretty tough, with huge puddles and slippery conditions for riders to contend with.
The atmosphere was great, with riders enjoying conversations on route as well as support and encouragement from local spectators and other riders. I’m sure he will be entering again next year!
The Winsford ‘pit stop’ provided more than ample cakes, sweets and drinks to keep riders hydrated and energized. A great time was had by all riders, so a big thank you to the organisers for a brilliant weekend!
Check out the photos and look out for our video of the event on the Active Exmoor TV page!
